Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Teddy Thompson and The Young Knives are among the latest acts to be confirmed for this year’s Summer Sundae Weekender in Leicester. The new additions will join the likes of The Maccabees, Graham Coxon, Example and McFly. Also newly confirmed are Jamaican reggae legends Toots & The Maytals, London-based garage rockers The Jim Jones Revue and indie quintet Pete & The Pirates.

Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson has unveiled the lead track from his debut solo album. The singer and guitarist has performed as part of the rock band since 2003, however has ventured out as a solo artist since the band announced their hiatus late last year. Fightstar have been reluctant to set a definite time frame on their hiatus, simply stating that they will reconvene at some point in 2012 to record another LP.

Emily Eavis, the daughter of Glastonbury festival founder Michael Eavis, has described this year’s festival as a “big finale” for the approaching gap year. Eavis stated that the extensive line-up, which was announced earlier this week, is intended to represent the finest music for both this year and next, when the festival will be taking a scheduled year off.

Legendary LA punk rockers Bad Religion have announced a one-off date at London’s HMV Forum on 10th July. The gig will follow their Main Stage slot at this year’s Sonisphere Festival the day before. These dates will mark the band’s first return to the UK since their headlining slots at last year’s Reading and Leeds festivals, where they performed on the events’ Lock Up Stage.

Glasgow-based indie-rockers Sparrow and the Workshop have revealed details of their new album ‘Spitting Daggers’, which is due for release on 23rd May. It will be the band’s second album to date, following last year’s debut ‘Crystals Fall’, and its release will coincide with a single ‘Snakes in the Grass’. Sparrow and the Workshop have also announced that they will be touring the UK throughout May, June and July. See below for dates and venues.

The Vaccines and recently reformed Brit-pop band Cast are among another batch of new additions to this year’s Lounge On The Farm festival in Kent. The Canterbury event, which is due to be headlined by The Streets, Ellie Goulding and Echo & The Bunnymen, will also see performances from Braids, Dry the River, Big Deal and Two Wounded Birds. Other new additions include Visions of Trees, Eagulls and Goodnight Lenin.

Villagers have teamed up with Anglo-French actress and singer-songwriter Charlotte Gainsbourg for a split 7” single in support of tomorrow’s Record Store Day (16th April). The record will feature the track ‘Set the Tigers Free’, taken from Villagers’ 2010 debut album ‘Becoming a Jackal’, as well as a new song called ‘Memoirs’. Both tracks can be heard here.

Liverpool Sound City, Merseyside’s coolest city centre music festival, has revealed the day-by-day programming of this year’s event. The urban festival, which runs between 19th and 21st May, will see performances from the likes of The View, Frank Turner, The Young Knives, Cast, Mona and Fucked Up plus many, many more. Among the newest additions to the line-up are Frankie and the Heartstrings, The Computers and Our Mountain.

New York City five-piece The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have confirmed details of a UK tour in June following the recent release of their second album ‘Belong’. The seven-date tour, which begins in Cambridge on 7th June and ends in Birmingham on the 14th, will see the band play to audiences around the country, including a headlining show at London’s Electric Ballroom in Camden Town. I hadn't heard anything about London boy's Rev78 so when I received the album, I had no expectations at all. Luckily for me, there was a press release with it to make them sound very exciting and perhaps even hyped them up a teeny bit too much. 'Music made for Arena's' was one quote - do I believe the press release? Surely the press don't lie?

At the time of writing, the weather outside my window has gone from being a glorious display of sunshine and warmth of the last few days to a grey, drab affair that can’t even be bothered of rain. And it’s muggy. Of course, Michael Franti and his long-time creation Spearhead aren’t known for taking a bright day and making it all crappy, so I placed this new album, already huge in the musical behemoth of the USA, in the player and while the weather outside didn’t change a whole lot, I felt a whole lot sunnier on the inside.
